Lanny Davis is an American lawyer, pro-democrat American political operative, consultant, lobbyist, author, and television commentator. and former advisor to Bill Clinton. Davis has represented many high-profile clients throughout his law career including Michael Cohen in the Stormy Daniels-Donald Trump scandal.
The Early Life of Lanny Davis
Lanny Davis was born to Jewish parents in Jersey City, New Jersey on December 12, 1945. Davis’s father was a dentist in the city while his mother worked as the office manager of his father’s dental office. He graduated high school from Newark’s Newark Academy in 1962 before attending Yale University. Lanny was part of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity during his undergraduate years where he was reportedly hazed by many of his fraternity brothers including future President George W.
Bush. Davis also headed Yale’s campus newspaper, the Yale Daily News as the chairman. He would get his Juris Doctor from Yale University School of Law in 1970. While getting his law degree at Yale, Davis would meet Hillary Clinton for the first time.

Soon after getting his JD, Davis became the part of Edmund S. Muskie eventual unsuccessful campaign for the 1972 Democratic Party Presidential nomination. Lanny also ran for Congress in 1976 but lost to Republican Newton Steers. In 2005, he was selected by President Bush as the only Democrat on the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board.
Davis began his legal career as an associate at Patton Boggs in 1975 before becoming a partner in 1978. He was then selected as a special counsel to President Clinton in 1996 and served till 1998. Davis was also the spokesman for Clinton in various legal issues including Clinton’s impeachment trial. Lanny rejoined Patton Boggs after ending his tenure at the White House. Since then Davis has represented multiple high-profile clients including the Porton Group, Martha Stewart, Dan Snyder, Trent Lott, National Black Chamber of Commerce and the Office of the President at Penn State University. After leaving the White House, Lanny Davis published his first book, a memoir about his work in the President’s residency.
