Dawn Ige is the current First Lady of Hawaii who assumed office on December 1, 2014 as her husband, David Ige, succeeded Neil Abercrombie as Governor of Hawaii. She is also a member of the National Governors’ Association’s leadership committee.

Early Life and Education

Dawn Ige was born in Ewa, Hawaii and went to James Campbell High School for early education. After James Campbell, Ige joined the University of Hawaii for an undergraduate degree in journalism. Later, she went to Chaminade University for post-graduate studies in business. Ige also did a diploma in elementary education from the University of Hawaii.

Personal Life

Dawn Ige is married to Governor of Hawaii, David Ige. They have been together for more than 31 years now. The couple has three children: Lauren, Amy and Matthew Ige. Lauren is a law practitioner, while Amy is a nurse. Likewise, Matthew is in his final year at Johns Hopkins University.

To be more personal, Ige enjoys going shopping during sale seasons. Likewise, some of her favorites are David and Goliath among books, Ike: Knowledge is Everywhere among movies, West Wing among television shows, kamaboko tempura among food items, Hapuna Beach Aragon Oil among beauty products and wedding ring and pearl necklace among fashion accessories.

Career

As a business graduate, Dawn Ige was primarily a marketing director at Kapiolani Health Care System. Besides, she also joined Stryker Weiner Associates as an account executive. Having worked in these firms for a few years, Dawn Ige started working as a teacher at Waimalu Elementary School. While at this job, she found her passion for the betterment of children. Soon, she became vice principal of Kanoelani Elementary School and tried to bring her ideologies into effect. Ige was also a vice principal at Moanalua High School.

As First Lady of Hawaii, Dawn Ige has focussed her attention towards education. Honored by the Public School of Hawaii Foundation, her efforts are currently concentrated on ‘STEAM (science, technology education, arts and math), global education, and international student exchanges’. Besides, Ige is also considerate about the changes required in the Hawaiian health system. Presently, she is a member of Department of Health’s Choose Healthy Now program. The program is aimed at promoting healthy habits in Hawaii, especially in the vulnerable areas.

It’s hard to talk about Dawn Ige’s position in relation to President Trump. However, as evident in the media, Governor David Ige has repeatedly commented on Trump’s proposals and statements. He is apparently hopeful about Trump administration as he thinks Trump will soften on his various stands. Besides, Ige has condemned Trump’s travel ban.
