Karen McDougal was born to her parents on March 23, 1971, in Merrillville, Indiana. As a child, she received training in ballet and top dance. McDougal was also a part of her high school cheerleading squad and even played softball. Karen majored in Elementary Education from Ferris State University at Big Rapids, Michigan and taught pre-kindergarten before starting her modeling career.

Mecey who was a photographer for Playboy at that time approached her for a test shoot for Playboy and she was quickly selected as a model for the magazine. She was also named Playmate of the Year in 1998 and reportedly got a cash prize of $100,000 along with a special edition Silver Shelby Series 1 convertible with a customized number plate for winning the title.
In March of 1999, McDougal became the first woman to be featured on the cover of Men’s Health Magazine and then started to focus her career in the fitness modeling sector. She made it to the cover of multiple health magazines. McDougal has publicly stated that her move into the fitness modeling business was completely unintentional.
Karen McDougal has also appeared in multiple movies and TV shows. She made her screen debut with The Arena. The movie was a failure, both critical and commercial, but has been regarded as a lesser-known cult film by many after its release.
