Sonny Perdue is an American politician who served as the Secretary of agriculture since 2017 and was selected by President Donald Trump. Perdue is the 81st Governor of Georgia who served from 2003 to 2011.
The early life of Sonny Perdue:
Sonny Perdue was born on December 20, 1946, in Perry, Georgia, the United States to the farmer father George Ervin Perdue and teacher mother Ophie Viola (Holt). His birth name is George Ervin Perdue III but he prefers to be called as Sonny. He did his bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and completed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine.
The career of Sonny Perdue:
From 1971 to 1974 Perdue served in the U.S. Air Force in Ohio and achieved the rank of captain in just three years. He worked as a veterinarian in Raleigh, North Carolina. After that, he became a successful small business owner in Bonaire, in
Houston Country. He served as an elected member of the Houston Country Planning and Lining Board throughout the year 1980. From 1990 to 1998, he served in the state senate as a Democrat and from 1998 to 2001, as a Republican. In 2002, Perdue won the Georgia gubernatorial election and became the first Republican governor of Georgia in over 130 years. He was re-elected and won to a second term in 2006 Georgia gubernatorial election. Governing magazine listed Perdue as one of the eight “Public Officials of the year” on October 26, 2010. He is the 81 st Governor of Georgia who served in the position of Governor from 2003 to 2011.
On January 18, 2017, Perdue was selected by President Donald Trump to serve in his cabinet as the Secretary of agriculture. The nomination for secretary of agriculture was approved by the committee on March 30, 2017, and confirmed by the
US Senate on April 24, 2017.
