Marion Sims Wyeth was a professional architect who is famous for his design of Donald Trump’s southern White House Mar-a-Lago estate, Palm Beach, Florida. Besides, Marion is also the designer of Shangri La, Honolulu.

Early Life and Education

Marion Sims was born in 1989 in New York City. Raised by father John Allan Wyeth and mother Florence Nightingale, he went to a local school and later joined Princeton University. Sims also went to École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, an art school in Paris.

Personal Life

Having been a famous personality some time ago, much of Sims’s personal information is not available in the media. His father was a doctor and founder of Cabrini Medical Center. Likewise, his grandfather was the founder of the first women’s hospital. Now, the hospital works in collaboration with St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital.

Career

Marion Sims went to the famous Princeton University for his bachelor’s degree in architecture. At Princeton, Marion was very active and enthusiastic about participating in art shows and competitions. Likewise, during his time at École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, He outstood from others. In 1913, He won the Prix Jean LeClerc Award. The following year, Sims received the Deuxième Prix Rougevin. These two awards were indeed a huge addition to his well-decorated credibility.

Graduating from Paris, Sims joined Carrere & Hastings as an architect. Working in the firm for a few years, he went to Palm Beach, Florida and founded Wyeth and King. Alongside partner Frederic Rhinelander King, Marion Sims helped create the most beautiful pieces of architecture in Palm beach. Consequently, he became the first Palm beach-based architect to be chosen as an American Institute of Architects’ fellow.

During the peak of his career, Sims designed several famous buildings including:

  • Mar-a-Lago, Palm Beach
  • Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach
  • High Point, New Jersey, Monument and associated Grey Rock Inn
  • Florida Governor’s Mansion
  • Shangri La – Doris Duke home in Honolulu
  • The Church of the Epiphany on New York City’s Upper East Side

Donald Trump and Marion Sims

Mar-a-Lago is often known as President Trump’s Winter White House of Southern White House. The beautiful mansion spread over an area of 10,000m2 was designed by Marion Sims Wyeth and Joseph Urban. While Urban did the interior planning, Sims did the exterior designing of the famous Mar-a-Lago estate.

In 1985, the estate was sold to Donald Trump for $7 million. Now, as one of the National Historic Landmark, Mar-a-Lago costs around $200 million.
