Harry Mason Reid (born Dec two, 1939) is a Yankee politician, and senior U.S. legislator from Nevada, having served since 1987.

Early Life and Early Career

Reid was born in Searchlight, Nevada. Reid is the third of 4 sons of Harry Vincent Reid and Inez Orena (Jaynes) Reid. His father Harry Vincent Reid was a miner and his mother was laundrywoman. Sadly. his father committed suicide with a shot to the top in 1972, at age 58, when Harry was thirty-two years old. His paternal grandmother was an English migrant from Darlaston, Staffordshire. Reid’s childhood home was a shack with no indoor bathroom, hot water, or telephone. Since Searchlight had no high school, Reid boarded with relatives forty miles away in Henderson, Nevada to attend Basic high school, where he vies soccer and was an amateur boxer. Whereas at Basic High, he met future Sagebrush State governor Mike O’Callaghan, who was an instructor there and served as Reid’s boxing coach. Reid studied at Southern Utah University and graduated from Utah State University. He then visited George Washington University School of law earning a J.D. while operating for the U.S. Capitol Police.

Early Political Career

State Politics

He came to Nevada after grad school and served as Henderson town professional person. In 1970, at age 30, Reid was chosen by O’Callaghan as his campaigner for an elected official of Nevada. Reid and O’Callaghan won the race, and Reid worked as lieutenant governor from 1971 till 1974. Former governor Paul Laxalt won the race by less than 700 votes with Harry. In 1975, Reid ran for the civil authority of the city and lost to Bill Briare.

In Nevada Gaming Commission, Reid worked as chairman from 1977 to 1981. When Jack Gordon, La Toya Jackson’s future agent and husband, offered Reid a $12,000 bribe to induce approval of latest games for casinos, Reid brought in the FBI to tape Gordon’s graft try and arrest him. After FBI agents interrupted the dealing, as planned, Reid lost his temper and tried to choke Gordon, speech “You son of a bitch, you tried to bribe me!” before agents stopped him. Gordon was guilty in 1979 and sentenced to 6 months in jail. In 1981, Reid’s wife found a bomb hooked up to the family station wagon; Reid suspected it was placed by Gordon, though this has never been proved in a court of law.

U.S. Representative

Prior to the 1980 Census, Nevada had solely one at-large member in the U.S. House of Representatives; however, increment in population in the Seventies resulted in the state picking up the second district. Reid won the Democratic nomination for the first district, based in Las Vegas, in 1982, and simply won the overall election. He served 2 terms in the House, from 1983 to 1987.

Cultural and Political Image

Reid had a job in the show Traffic (2000), in which he contends himself. He appeared, with Senators Sam Brownback and Barack Obama, in the 2007 moving-picture show Sand and Sorrow that details the killing in Sudan. Reid was nonappointive to the Gaming Hall of Fame in 2001.

Personal Life

In 1959, philosopher married his high school girlfriend, Landra Gould. They have 5 children: a girl and 4 sons. The eldest son of Harry named Rory was an elected Commissioner for Clark County, Nevada and he became Chairman and 2010 Democratic candidate in the election for Governor of Nevada. Injury

On January one, 2015, Reid was skinned while traveling in his home when a chunk of kit he was using skint, inflicting him to fall. As a result, Reid suffered broken ribs, broken facial bones and was in danger of permanent vision loss in his right eye. On January 26, 2015, Reid underwent surgery to get rid of a blood from his right eye and repair facial bones.
