Joe Crowley is an American politician. Since 2013, he has been serving as the U.S. Representative for New York’s 14th congressional district. Since 2017, he has been Chair of the House Democratic Caucus. From 1999 to 2013, he also represented the 7th district.
The Early life of Joe Crowley
Joe Crowley was born on March 16, 1962, in Woodside, Queens, New York City. His father Joseph F. Crowley Sr. is an Irish-American and his mother Eileen Crowley emigrated from County Armagh, Northern Ireland. His father was a lawyer and also served as a New York City Police Department detective. Before that, his father served in the US Army during the Korean War. Crowley is 2nd among the 4 siblings. In 1981, he graduated from Power Memorial Academy in Manhattan. He earned a degree in political science and communications in 1985 from Queens College.
Joe Crowley’s Career
Joe Crowley began his career by being a member of the New York State Assembly from 1987 to 1998. In 1999, his name was given for the general election ballot following the retirement of Thomas J. Manton by the Congress. Crowley represented the 7th district in 2012. After a year he again represented the 14th congressional district of New York. Later on, he served as one of the 5th highest positions in the House Democratic Caucus, a Democratic Caucus Vice-Chairman of the United States House of Representatives. To provide the 9/11 Heroes Medal of Valor, in 2001-02, he authored a bill.
After his cousin was killed in a terrorist attack, he made the Urban Area Security that helped to prevent terrorism. Later on, he voted in the favor of the invasion of Iraq, along with 81 House Democrats. In the 2010 elections, Planned Parenthood endorsed Crowley. But he disagreed with a bill in 2011. The bill would ban taxpayer funding for abortion issues.
In the 2016 election, Crowley delivered a speech supporting Hillary Clinton, as the chairman of the Queens Democratic Party. He is ranked as the 4th member of minority delegation and was also voted as a chairman of the House Democratic Caucus. But was defeated in the Democratic primary for his seat by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on June 26, 2018.
