Bill Hagerty was born as William Francis Hagerty IV on August 14, 1959, in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, and was also raised there. His father was a veteran and his mother was a school teacher. Bill Hagerty kicked off his professional career as an employee at Boston Consulting Group. He had to travel to Tokyo, Japan as he was assigned there for three years. He had also served for Mitt Romney’s 2008 presidential campaign as his national finance chairman.

On February 14, 2011, Bill Hagerty was appointed the new Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development and he serviced for the position until June 6, 2014. Apart from these, he was also one of the steering committee members of the Major League Soccer (MLS). During the 2016 presidential campaign, he served in the campaign of Jeb Bush. On August 31, 2017, he was appointed the 30th United States Ambassador to Japan. He worked for nearly two years, until July 22, 2019.

Bill Hagerty married Chrissy Hagerty in 1987. The couple is blessed with four children, William, Stephen, Tara, and Christine. The family is living happily together.
