Stacey Abrams is an American politician. She is a lawyer as well as a novelist. From 2011 to 2017, she served as Minority Leader of the Georgia House of Representative.
The early life of Stacey Abrams
Stacey Abrams was born on December 9, 1973, in Madison, Wisconsin. Her father’s name is Robert Abrams and her mother’s name is Carolyn Abrams. She was raised in Gulfport, Mississippi as one of six siblings. Her parents pursued graduate school and later became Methodist ministers after the family moved to Atlanta. She was selected for Telluride Association Summer Program while attending Avondale High School. Later, she was also hired as a typist for a congressional campaign while she was attending High School and based on the edits she made while typing, she was hired as a speechwriter.
She was only 17 years old while being hired. Abrams earned her Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies in 1995, from Spelman College. She used to work in the youth services department in the office of Atlanta mayor Maynard Jackson while in college. In 1998, Stacy Abrams studied public policy at the University of Texas and got a Master of Public Affairs as a Harry S. Truman Scholar. From Yale Law School, she earned a Law degree in 1999.

With a focus on tax-exempt organizations, health care, and public finance, Abrams worked as a tax attorney at the Sutherland Asbill and Brennan law firm located in Atlanta after graduating from law school. Her political career began in 2002, at the age of 29, after she was appointed the Deputy City Attorney for Atlanta. Her cooperation with Republican Governor Nathan Deal’s administration to reform the HOPE Scholarship Program was her first major action as Minority Leader. She also worked with Deal on criminal-justice reforms that reduced prison cost without increasing crime as house minority leader. On the state’s biggest-ever public-transportation funding package, she worked with Republicans.
In the 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election, she ran for Governor of Georgia. She ran against another member of the Georgia House of Representatives, Stacey Evans. She won the Democratic nomination for Governor on May 22, 2018. Further, she is planning to focus on Medicaid expansion. She showed that Medicaid expansion would improve the health care access for low-income and is also planning to make hospitals in rural locations.
