John Galliano is a British fashion designer who designed the wedding Dior gown for Melania Trump in 2005. Formerly, he was the head designer at Givenchy, Christian Dior, and his own clothing chain John Galliano.
Early Life and Education
John Galliano was born on 28 November 1960 to father Juan and mother Anita. Born in Gibraltar and raised in England, John Galliano went to St. Anthony’s School for early education. Then, he joined Wilson’s Grammar School to complete high school education. Completing high school, Galliano entered Saint Martin’s School of Art for an undergraduate degree in fashion designing.
Personal Life
John Galliano is currently in a relationship with Alexis Roche. Like John, Alexis is also in the fashion industry. Previously, Galliano was with fashion designer John Flett.
Career
Graduating from Saint Martin’s School of Art, John Galliano brought out a design collection called Les Incroyables. The collection was largely appraised and even received an offer for sale in a London-based fashion boutique. Following this initial success, Galliano went to London and quickly became an established designer with financial backing from several investors such as Johan Brun, Peder Bertelsen and Katharine Hamnett. Unfortunately, Galliano lost all his investor in 1988 and subsequently went bankrupt.
From London, John came back to Paris and collaborated with Kyle Minogue. The coordination between the two fashion industry people soon came to an end, hence leaving John adrift again. As time passed by, John made several eye-catching and financially successful designs. Hence, he was hired by Givenchy as a designer in 1995. He left the position in 1996 to joined Dior. Galliano remained in Christian Dior as a head designer from 1996 to 20011. Along the line, Galliano also introduced his own clothing label and named it John Galliano.
In 2011, John Galliano was caught up in a public bar brawl. Reportedly, he was heard delivering anti-semitic speeches. To quote him, one of his speeches goes, “I love Hitler… People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers would all be fucking gassed.” Soon, Galliano was suspended from Christian Dior and later dismissed. Besides, Galliano paid $6,300 as a fine.
As of 2013, John Galliano worked with Oscar de la Renta to prepare for New York Fashion Week. Likewise, at some point, he was also rumored to be taking up a teacher’s position at Parsons The New School for Design. In 2014, he became the creative direction of the house for Masion Margiela.
