Rex Tillerson is the new likely candidate for the US Secretary of State. Besides the mainstream politics, Rex was heavily involved in the business as the CEO of ExxonMobil. He had to renounce the position in order to take a position in Donald Trump’s White House.

Early Life and Education

Born on 23rd March 1952, Rex Tillerson was raised in Wichita Falls, Texas. Now 64, he was born to father Bobby Joe Tillerson and mother Patty Sue.

After completing a high school in a local institution, Tillerson joined civil engineering at University of Texas at Austin in 1971. He has been one of the distinguished engineering graduates.

Career

At Exxon

Initially, as a production manager, Rex Tillerson was recruited into The Exxon Company in 1975. Subsequently, he got promoted to general manager of central production and then to president of Exxon Yemen Inc. in 1995.

Likewise, Tillerson was appointed as the vice president of Exxon Ventures in 1998 and president of Exxon Neftegas in 1999. Finally, with enormous experience and competency, Tillerson was appointed as the CEO of Exxon on January 1, 2006.

 

In his tenure, Rex has carved legacies on Exxon. The company acquired XTO Energy and attained numerous other feats.

Russian Ties

Tillerson is one of the very few Americans who has truthful ties with the Russian Federation. He even received the Order of Friendship from President Vladimir Putin in 2013.

Rex has made several business deals with Russia. For instance, the 300-billion-dollar drilling in the Arctic. Likewise, Tillerson also has investments in a Russian company called Yandex.

Middle East Ties

Tillerson is also fond of doing business with the Middle East nations. ExxonMobil made a sales revenue of more than 55 million dollars just from Iran, Sudan, and Syria between 2003 and 2005. Likewise, Tillerson has signed various contracts to develop oil fields in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Political path

Even prior to being a nominee for Secretary of State, Tillerson was heavily involved in American politics, especially from the Republican side. He has been a regular donor to The Grand Old Party.

Rex supported Trans-Pacific Partnership in 2013 and wrote an article in support of Common Core education in the US. Similarly, he is very much skeptical about administration’s decisions to cut carbon production on the grounds that the extent of effects of climate change is not clear yet. Anyway, he favored the introduction of carbon tax in the US economy in 2009.

Trump and Tillerson

Although Tillerson didn’t donate MAGA PAC, he indeed had certain qualities which would be beneficial for Trump team to extend further ties with Vladimir Putin. Hence, Trump was announced to be the nominee for Secretary of State on December 13, 2016. On January 23, 2017, Rex Tillerson was approved as the Secretary of State by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. However, he will still have to go through the full Senate voting.

Rex Tillerson is a married man with four kids.He also has many grandchildren His wife’s name is Renda St. Clair and the couple lives in a small town while they own several homes in Texas.
