Lester Holt is an American journalist who was born on 8 march 1959 . He has been doing journalism since 1981 . He has a very bold personality . He has done journalism for many television . Due to his services in the field of journalism, he has been honored by awards .

Early life

Lester Holt was born on March 8, 1959 , in Marin county , California . His father Lester holt sr was in US air force and his mother June holt was a regional planner . Lester has a mixed ethnicity like Indian , Jamaican, and English , as his maternal grandparents were from jamaica . Talking of his education he graduated from  Cordova High School in Rancho Cordova, California, in 1977 . He then joined California state University where he majored in government . He got his Doctorate from Pepperdine University in 2012.


His career started as a disc jockey , he had a keen interest in anchoring and television . while he was in college he got the job in a radio station . After his college, he started to look for new jobs and luckily found a job at New York City at WCBS-TV in 1981 as a reporter . After a year he was hired by KNXT in LA as a reporter and weekly news anchor . In 1986 he started working for WBBM-TV in Chicago . He spent 14 years on that TV doing anchoring for the evening news .He lasted that long because everyone had appreciated his work . Holt has also done extensive reporting in places like Iraq , Afghanistan , Somalia , El Salvador , Haiti etc. He finally left WBBM-TV  and started working on MSNBC in 2000 . In  August 2005 Holt started doing full-time duties on NBC  . Due to his good service  in NBC, he was named anchor of the weekend edition of NBC Nightly News on 9th May 2007 . Holt has also been seen in many movies and TV series as a minor character . In the film Fugitive(1993) he was given the cameo role . Holt has done a voice over in the episode on “sandwich day ” . Lester has also been the feature in making music magazine , due to his love and interest for music . He was awarded with  Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for his work on 48 Hours: No Place Like Home aired by CBS .

Personal Life

Lester Holt stands 6 ft 2 inches tall . He married Carol Hagen in 1982 . They have 2 sons Stefan Holt and Cameron Holt . He currently residing in Manhattan with his wife . Holt plays bass guitar in his spare time . He is also very religious and attends Manhattan Church of Christ in New York.  Lester Holt at an age of 57 is doing excellent in his anchoring career and has been able to perfectly balance personal and professional life together earning a net worth of $12 million  and salary per year is $4 million with NBC news .

Lester as the host -Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump face off debate

The debate of US presidential election between Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton is now on fire .  Though Lester Holt wasn’t the candidates he has grabbed some headlines. Lester Holt was given the role of moderator in the presidential debate and he performed it well . Holt kept calm in those intense 90 minutes debate . He wasn’t aggressive but asked direct questions on a handful of issues .


Holt also asked about Obama to Donald Trump that , once Trump had stated that non-US birth was not eligible for president . Holt again asked Trump about Obama’s citizenship . Holt made a little attempt on the issues of more personal matters such as questioning of whether Clinton had the “stamina” to be a president .

In the closing of the debate, Holt thanked both candidates and for the intense debate . Holt stated to the audience “We’ve covered a lot of ground,” although not as much as he’d hoped .In the debate which was witnessed by former US President Bill Clinton who also happens to be Hillary Clinton’s husband and Ivanka Trump(Donald Trump elder daughter); Holt’s role as a moderator  has brought mixed reviews  from both sides.
