Theo Bleckmann is a German-born singer and musician. He is well known for his songs Beat! Beat! Drums!, A Clear Midnight and Static Still.

Theo Bleckmann was born on May 28, 1966 in a German family in Dortmund. The information about Theo’s formal education is not available in the media.

Career

Theo Bleckmann was always interested in avant-garde jazz, experimental big ban, modern creative music, vocal jazz, and Post-Bop. Each of his music interests can be seen reflected in Theo Bleckmann’s musical compositions and albums. In 1992, he released his first Traumton-Indigo album titled Theo & kirk. Subsequently, in 1995, Traumton-Indigo signed him for another album called Looking-Glass River. Both of these beginner’s albums were made in collaboration between Theo and Kirk Nurock, and hence saw significant success.

In 1997, Theo left the Traumton-Indigo and signed into Songlines to produce No Boat in collaboration with Ben Monder. In 2000, he jumped to GPE Records and then to Songlines in 2001. Four years later, Bleckmann was back to the studio where he started. It was in 2006 when Theo Bleckmann was signed by a renowned and long-term record producer, Winter & Winter. That year, he produced Las Vegas Rhapsody – The Night They Invented Champagne in coordination with Fumio Yasuda.

Since 2006, Winter & Winter has launched six albums for Theo Bleckmann, including famous Refuge Trio, Twelve Songs by Charles Ives and Hello Earth! As of 2014, Bleckmann released The Imagined Savior is Far Easier to paint in partnership with producer Ambrose Akinmusire. The album has been rated four stars by AllMusic, five stars by All About Jazz and 9 out of 10 by PopMatters.

Besides bringing out albums, Theo Bleckmann also composes music for some selected movies and shows. In 1997, he did the soundtrack for alien language in the blockbuster movie ‘Men in Black’. Likewise, Theo is a jazz voice professor at Manhattan School of Music. In the same way, he teaches the subject at The New School, NYU and Queens College as well.
