Sheldon Whitehouse is an American lawyer. He is also a politician who is serving as the junior United States senator from Rhode Island since 2007.

Sheldon was born on October 20, 1955, in New York City, New York. His father’s name is Charles Sheldon Whitehouse who is a career diplomat and his mother’s name is Mary Celine. In 1978, Sheldon Whitehouse graduated from Yale University and St. Paul School in Concord, New Hampshire. In 1982, from the University Of Virginia School Of Law, he received his Juris Doctor (J.D.).

Sheldon used to work as a clerk from 1982 to 1983. He used to work for Judge Richard F. Neely. He was the judge of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia. Later, he also worked as a special assistant attorney general in the Rhode Island Attorney General’s office from 1985 to 1990. He worked as chief of the Regulatory Unit from 1988 to 1990. He also worked as an assistant attorney general from 1989 to 1990. In 1994, Whitehouse was appointed by U.S. Attorney President Bill Clinton. He was elected the Rhode Island Attorney general in 1998. He gave his 50th weekly Senate speech on climate change on November 14, 2013. After the death of U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia in February 2016, Whitehouse was named as a possible nominee to fill the vacancy by USA Today. However, was not nominated.
