Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is the King of Saudi Arabia who took the office on 23 January 2015. Besides, he also holds the positions of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and head of the House of Saud.

Early Life and Education

Salman Al Saud was born on 31 December 1935 in Riyadh to Saudi Arabian monarch Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia and Hassa bint Ahmad Al Sudairi. He grew up in Murabba Palace with six of his royal siblings who are often referred to as Sudairi Seven.

Personal Life

King Salman has already married five times in his life. The first woman who tied a marital knot with the Arabian monarch is Sultana Bint Turki AlSudiari. The couple had six children: Prince Fahd, Ahmed, Sultan, Abdulaziz, Faisal, and Hassa. Of these six children, Fahd and Ahmed both died of heart complications. Otherwise, Sultan is the chairman of Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, Abdulaziz serves as the Deputy Minister of Oil and Faisal governs the province of Madinah.

Salman’s second marriage was with Wafaa bint Abdullah bin Hanash bin Ali Al Shahri. The couple gave birth to Prince Saud. From the third marriage with Fahda bint Falah bin Sultan Al Hithalayn, Salman made another six princes.

Reportedly, Salman is also married to Sarah Bint Faisal Alsibe’ei and Sultana Bint Mandil Al Mandil Al Khaldi.

Career

At a tender age of 19, Salman took the office of deputy governor of Riyadh Province. Nine years later, he got promoted to the governor of Riyadh in 1963. Fetching expert advice from the professors of the King Saud University, he contributed immensely towards transforming the Arabian capital into a center for foreign direct investment (FDI) and tourism. Likewise, his policies also included deporting any foreign beggars and arresting those who tend to con people.

After holding the Governor’s office for 38 years, Salman got appointed to the posts of Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence. Under this capacity, he tried to suppress the protests in Arab Spring and even met Barack Obama and David Cameron to hold mutual military talks. Shortly after ascending to the office of Deputy Prime Minister, Salman was declared the Crown Prince. Then, on 23 January 2015, he took King’s throne as a successor to his brother Abdullah.

As the King of Saudi Arabia, King Salman started off by streamlining the government bodies. Then, he became very vigilant and active about foreign relations. He bombarded Yemen and carried out military operations in several neighboring nations. Likewise, he was even held up in Panama Papers Scandal. Just like the former Kings, Salman of all Saud has had a career with lots of ups and downs.

Despite the prevalence of apparent terrorism threats in the Middle East, Donald Trump did not impose any travel ban on Saudi Arabia. This gesture indeed shows a good relationship between the US President and Arabian King. Likewise, the two leaders have also talked about having safe zones in Syrian and Yemen. In an hour-long conversation, they also talked about making ISIS their top priority.
