Janelle Monáe is a professional singer and a songwriter who is widely known for her song ‘Yoga’ which was released in 2015. Monáe has won six Grammy Awards so far. Likewise, she made appearances in Academy Award nominee Hidden Figures and Academy Award winner film Moonlight.

Early Life and Education

Janelle Monáe was born on December 1, 1985 to father Michael Robinson and his wife. Raised in Kansas City, Monáe always aspired to become a singer. In 2003, Janelle Monáe released her self-financed album titled ‘The Audition’. The album consisted of 14 title songs with a total length of 52 minutes and 7 seconds. With R&B genre, The Audition was recorded in Wondaland Studio. Monáe remained relatively inactive over the next few years after the release of her first album. In 2008, she returned to the industry and went for Metropolis Tour. Subsequently, in 2010, Monáe released The ArchAndroid which sold over 21k copies in its opening week.

The ArchAndroid extends to a total length of 68 minutes and 35 seconds with 18 title songs. Soon after the albums’ release, Monáe decided to go for The ArchAndroid Tour. To follow up, she joined Campus Consciousness Tour and Hooligans in Wondaland Tour in 2011. The same year, Monae was also with Amy Winehouse and Mayer Hawthorne in Summer Soul Festival. Then, on September 6, 2013, Janelle released The Electric Lady. With 19 title songs, the album is 67 minutes and 35 seconds in total length. The mild success of the album called for The Electric Lady Tour (2013 and The Golden Electric Tour (2014).

Besides music, Janelle has been a part of filmography. In 2016, she appeared in two Oscar nominater movies, Moonlight and Hidden Figures. Likewise, Janelle is the voice behind Stan Smith of American television show, American Dad!
