Imran Khan is a former world cup winning cricketer and currently a politician. Khan is the prime minister-elect and current chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

The early life of Imran Khan

Imran Khan was born on 5th October 1953 to Ikram Ullah Khan Niazi and Shaukat Khanum. His parental family belongs to Pashtun ethnicity. Khan is also a descendant of the Sufi warrior poet Pir Roshan maternally. Imran has four sisters with whom he grew up in upper-middle-class circumstances. He studied in Aitchison College in Lahore. Khan became excellent in cricket after he entered Royal Grammar school Worcester in England he studied economics, philosophy, and politics from Keble College and graduated with honors.

The career of Imran Khan

Khan debuted in cricket at the age of sixteen. He played for teams of Lahore: Lahore A, Lahore b, Lahore greens. During the 1973-1975 seasons, he was a part of the blues cricket team at the University of Oxford. He also represented teams like Dawood industries and Pakistan international airlines. Khan played for Sussex from 1983 to 1988. He played against England for his
debut on test cricket in 1971. Imran debuted for a one day international three years later.

He returned to Pakistan in 1976 after graduating from Oxford and gained a permanent place on his native national team starting from the 1976-1977 season. He was established as the fastest bowler in 1978 when he finished third at 139.7 km/hr in a fast bowling contest at Perth. Imran reached his peak in 1982. He took over the captaincy from Javed Miandad in this year. He played 48 test matches out of which Pakistan won 14 matches.


His captaincy reached its height when he led Pakistan to victory in 1992 cricket world cup. Khan played his last game at the age of 39 after he took his last winning wicket. Imran Khan was a special representative for sports at UNICEF and promoted
health and immunization programmes in different countries. Khan founded Tehreek-e-Insaf in April 1996. His party won nearly twice as many seats as its rival in 2002. He was selected from Mianwali. A recent election held on July 2018 at Pakistan has decided to elect him as the new prime minister. After years of struggle, Imran has finally got the chance to serve his nation and lead it towards a new direction. Khan promises to free his country from corruption and poverty.

In the Personal life of Imran Khan

Imran had married a 21-year-old British socialite, Jemima goldsmith at the age of 43 in 1995. They had two sons but got divorced in 2004. His second marriage was fixed with a journalist, Reham Khan but it just lasted for a year. He is now married to Bushra Watto who is a mother of the five children. She is described as khan’s spiritual advisor.

Facts about Imran Khan

– While climbing a tree during his childhood Imran slipped and broke his left arm, for which he was hospitalized. Since then he has problems in his left arm, not while bowling but while holding his bat. He had to practice constantly, else his hand would stiffen.
– ‘Kaptaan: the making of legend’ is his biographical movie made by Pakistan production house in 2010.
